Why is Super Mario Run coming to iPhone before Android? –

“One of the reasons we focused on iPhone first was the stability of the platform and being able to get the level of response that we want out of the games,” said Miyamoto. “And that’s not to say that Android devices don’t have the same level of responsiveness. But because there are so many Android devices, trying to engineer the game to work across them all requires quite a lot of time.”

Google has gone crazy

Non-blurry photos of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL leak

Today is apparently Pixel leak day. After getting some new details on pricing and spotting the phone in a Nest ad, some actual photos of the phones have emerged. The image above (and another below) show both phones side-by-side. This marks the first time we’ve actually seen the phones in the flesh—er, metal. Whatever.

Pricing for the smaller Google Pixel phone could start at $649, but financing will be available

Previous rumors pegged the larger Pixel XL with a starting price of $649, but our source says that’s not the case. It’s the smaller, cheaper 5-inch Pixel that will start at this price. This will most likely be for the base storage model, presumably 32GB but we can’t say for sure.

  • Given the historically low adoption of the Nexus line of phones, how will Google drive sales of a $649 new brand phone?

Exclusive: Google is planning a ‘Pixel 3’ laptop running the ‘Andromeda’ OS for release in Q3 2017

Two independent and reliable sources have confirmed to us that Google is planning a new Pixel laptop to be released in Q3 2017. The project, known internally as ‘Bison’ and by the informal nickname ‘Pixel 3,’ will likely be the first brand-new device to showcase Google’s combined Android / Chrome OS ‘Andromeda’ operating system in a laptop form factor.

  • This sounds like an entirely new platform. Or will it be killing off ChromeOS? What about all the OEMs? What about the new Pixel phones, two separate Android based OSes?

Microsoft/TypeScript · GitHub

TypeScript is a superset of JavaScript that compiles to clean JavaScript output.

https://www.typescriptlang.org

TypeScript – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TypeScript is a free and open source programming language developed by Microsoft. It is a strict superset of JavaScript, and adds optional static typing and class-based object-oriented programming to the language. Anders Hejlsberg, lead architect of C# and creator of Delphi and Turbo Pascal, has worked on development of TypeScript.[1][2][3][4]

TypeScript is designed for development of large applications and transcompiles to JavaScript.[5] As TypeScript is a superset of JavaScript, any existing JavaScript programs are also valid TypeScript programs.

TypeScript supports header files which can contain type information of existing JavaScript libraries, enabling other programs to use objects defined in the header files as if they were strongly typed TypeScript objects. There are third-party header files for popular libraries like jQuery, MongoDB, Node.js, and D3.js.[6]

Common criticisms of TypeScript

TypeScript was announced and folks are saying “TypeScript is clearly Microsoft’s answer to Google’s Dart” or “So TypeScript is Microsoft’s answer to CoffeeScript.”

People have compared TypeScript to Dart. That’s comparing apples to carburetors. TypeScript builds on JavaScript so there’s no JS interop issues. Dart is a native virtual machine written from scratch. Dart interops with JavaScript…but it’s not JS. It doesn’t even use the JavaScript number type for example.

TypeScript | Build 2014 | Channel 9

JavaScript has grown from a webpage toy to being used in large-scale deployments both on the server and in the browser. This rapid growth has outpaced the growth of the language itself, which lacks features that allow teams to communicate requirements and build applications safely. This session will be a guided tour of TypeScript, showing how the language and toolset makes it easier to write cross-platform, large-scale JavaScript applications.
