C. Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, and Microsoft will capture 76 percent of all cloud platform revenue in 2018. It also states that Microsoft, Oracle, and Salesforce together have a 70 percent share of all software-as-a-service (SaaS) revenue. ALL THAT SAID: AWS will see its significant lead in the market erode in 2018.
C. Serverless will pick up more hype, and a notable new project/product will boast how it helped them get to market.
C. 2018 is the year of the smart speaker/Lady Tube Assistant. Built into TVs, sound bars, lights, Sonos.
C. Smart devices sell like crazy. Smart plugs, LIFX bulbs, outdoor lights, etc.
Linux becomes the workstation of choice after 18.04. With Dell receiving the bulk of the new customers.
M. Desktop Linux misses its shot unseat Apple for dev / pro workstations

Last Week hit Close to Home for afixia-web

I’ve had so many so close to great workflows in windows and linux. But at the end of the day, a maxed out macbook pro can run 4 monitors, sign ios apps, compile android and mac apps, and run some of the most intuitive workflow processes i’ve ever seen (alfred worflows and homebrew alone????).

Love the struggle though, but too close to home.

Also, if you’re a QT fan, there are some awesome powershell scripts that make the static build far less painful to set up. I haven’t booted up my MacBook in a couple of months.

But as a software developer, I am deeply ambivalent about an Apple dominated future. Apple isn’t shy about cultivating the experience around their new iOS products and the App Store.

Our Type of JavaScript

TypeScript was designed with JavaScript in mind, and as a superset of JavaScript it accepts regular JavaScript syntax. It’s not an entirely new language, but a strictly-typed superset of JavaScript that compiles down to plain vanilla JavaScript. TypeScript introduces features such as static typing, data encapsulation through classes (in ES2015) as well as through interfaces, decorators, and private, public, and protected variables. It ultimately attempts to bring the advantages of strong typing commonly found in traditional object-oriented languages like Java to JavaScript.

The change would be aimed at enticing developers to continue investing in Alexa as a voice assistant platform, by giving those app makers more data that could help improve their software over time. 24-core CPU and I can’t move my mouse | Random ASCII

This story begins, as they so often do, when I noticed that my machine was behaving poorly. My Windows 10 work machine has 24 cores (48 hyper-threads) and they were 50% idle. It has 64 GB of RAM and that was less than half used. It has a fast SSD that was mostly idle. And yet, as I moved the mouse around it kept hitching – sometimes locking up for seconds at a time.
