Looking back at the last few days one thing is clear, Google is making some big moves! We cover the high & lows of Chrome OS, Google eBooks, Cloud Print, & the Nexus S!

Show Feeds:

Show Notes:

Chrome OS:

They figure most average users spend 90% of their time using their web browser. So why do they need all the other stuff on their computer that is just in their way? That’s the goal of Chrome OS.

  • Chrome browser has gone main stream as a “good thing”. Average consumers are begging to trust it as a brand.
  • Always On means two things, super fast boot, and always connected. If you are not connected, you won’t have most your apps. Google says “most the time, a lot of people don’t use their computer if there is no Internet.”.
  • With in the last few weeks I (Chris) have had several moments where I felt like I have been living inside Chrome.
  • Early developers can sign up for a kinda slick netbook running Chrome OS.

Google eBooks Store

  • Books you buy are stored in the cloud, with your progress synced.
  • Android, iPhone, or iPad apps; from your browser; or on any device that supports the Adobe Digital Editions DRM (a few devices, like the Kindle).
  • 3 million free eBooks.
  • The store saw a lot of traffic on launch, they have their own fail whale!

Google Cloud Print

  • Requires Google Chrome 9.0.597.1 or greater (and WinXP/Vista/7 as of 12/08/10).
  • Allows you to print from your Android/iPhone/iTouch/iPad/Netbook/ChromeOS/Chrome system from anywhere to any printer you have connected to Google Cloud Print.
  • Requires your proxy computer be on, and (for windows) logged in.
  • HP might be building this into 2011 printers.

Android 2.3 / Nexus S

  • More details on Android 2.3 in LAS s14e08
  • 1 GHz Hummingbird processor
  • 6GB of memory
  • Wi-Fi hotspot
  • NFC support (read only!)
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread pre-installed
