Tech giants don’t want Obama to give police access to encrypted phone data – The Washington Post

Tech behemoths including Apple and Google and leading cryptologists are urging President Obama to reject any government proposal that alters the security of smartphones and other communications devices so that law enforcement can view decrypted data.

In a letter to be sent Tuesday and obtained by The Washington Post, a coalition of tech firms, security experts and others appeal to the White House to protect privacy rights as it considers how to address law enforcement’s need to access data that is increasingly encrypted.

Safari address-spoofing bug could be used in phishing, malware attacks | Ars Technica

The recently published proof-of-concept exploit causes the Safari address bar to display dailymail.co.uk even though the browser is displaying content from deusen.co.uk. It works on fully patched versions of iOS and OS X. Malicious attackers might use the bug to dupe Safari users into thinking they’re connecting to a trusted site instead of one that’s phishing their login credentials or attempting to install malware.

Russian mobile broadband provider and smartphone manufacturer Yota has finally revealed the U.S. pricing and pre-order details for the second version of its smartphone, the YotaPhone2, six months after its European launch.

While we already knew that Yota was taking to Indiegogo to launch its follow-up flagship phone Stateside, we didn’t know how much it would cost and when it might be made available. According to the Indiegogo campaign page, Yota is seeking $50,000 throughout a 60-day campaign, and the funds will be used to cover the costs of the various regulatory fees and certifications in the U.S.
