Samsung Recalls New Galaxy Note7 Due to Exploding Batteries [Updated] – Mac Rumors

According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, an unnamed Samsung official says the company is conducting an investigation and is expected to announce the results this weekend or early next week. Samsung has indeed traced the explosions to the battery of the device and is in talks with Verizon and other U.S. business partners to figure out how to deal with the issue.

Hoopla

Qualcomm will reportedly not support Nougat on Snapdragon 800/801 Androids

Qualcomm “will not release graphics drivers” for either the 801 or 800 CPU, so the “HTC One M8 and other devices” based on said processors “won’t get official Android 7.0.” Going deeper, it sounds like this odd “refusal” to support a pair of still very robust SoCs relates to Nougat’s Vulkan API integration, a new high-performance 3D graphics standard the SD800 and 801 are simply not compatible with.

Apple Might Pull Your App!

Effective immediately Apple will be going through the App Store looking for apps that have not been properly maintained and ultimately will remove them from the App Store.

A small percentage of units—35 have been identified so far—have exploded or caught fire while charging due to a flaw in the phone’s lithium battery. Yep, exploded.

In 1 minute, Slack founder will make you rethink how to sell innovation

What we are selling is _not _the software product — the set of all the features, in their specific implementation — because there are just not many buyers for this software product.

Apple Invites Media to September 7 Event: ‘See You on the 7th’ – Mac Rumors

Apple today sent out media invites for an iPhone-centric event that will be held on Wednesday, September 7 at 10:00 am at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California. Media invites (via The Verge) offer up a first look at the theme of the event and feature the simple tagline: “See you on the 7th.”

A photo claiming to show a specification sheet for a 256GB-capacity iPhone 7 Plus has been circulating online today.

Pour one out: The Nexus 7 is finally dead | TechRadar

Want to buy yourself a Nexus 7? It’s not going to happen. Google has apparently given up on selling the 7-inch device directly to consumers, choosing instead to focus on the Nexus 9.

But the bad news is that the larger, newer tablet isn’t hitting the heights the Nexus slate managed during 2013 and 2014, with Google’s earnings call confirming that the tablet isn’t performing as well as its predecessor.

In fact, both the Nexus 9 and smartphone Nexus 6 aren’t selling in the same numbers that Google has hoped they would, with the search giant confirming that the loss of Nexus sales had led to a drop in revenue quarter over quarter.

Uber is bringing its food delivery service to New York City and Chicago | The Verge

WSJ: Google’s Carrier Experiment Could Launch This Month

In fact, sources told the WSJ that it would only work with the latest Nexus 6 phone.

The service will switch between Wi-Fi, Sprint and T-Mobile. A pretty tough piece of networking when you consider that Sprint is a CDMA network and T-Mobile is a GSM network. Because of all the network hopping, Google needs to tweak the hardware and software of devices that use its network. This is why the Nexus 6 will be the device of choice, Google can’t get in to tweak the settings of phones from other manufacturers.

Google’s carrier ambitions are more of an experiment into what can be accomplished than a full-on assault on carriers. So don’t expect to start seeing Google running ads with unlimited data, text and voice offers anytime soon.

Self-Driving Cars Will Be In 30 US Cities By the End of Next Year – Slashdot

Automated vehicle pilot projects will roll out in the U.K. and in six to 10 U.S. cities this year, with the first unveiling projected to be in Tampa Bay, Florida as soon as late spring. The following year, trial programs will launch in 12 to 20 more U.S. locations, which means driverless cars will be on roads in up to 30 U.S. cities by the end of 2016. The trials will be run by Comet LLC, a consulting firm focused on automated vehicle commercialization. … they’re focusing on semi-controlled areas and that the driverless vehicles will serve a number of different purposes—both public and private. The vehicles themselves—which are all developed by Veeo Systems—will even vary from two-seaters to full-size buses that can transport 70 people. At some locations, the vehicles will drive on their own paths, occasionally crossing vehicle and pedestrian traffic, while at others, the vehicles will be completely integrated with existing cars.

Google’s Nexus Player: More prototype than finished product | Ars Technica

The Nexus Player has 3 components. For $99, you get the set-top box and remote control, while another $40 gets you the optional Nexus Player Gamepad. The total package is a $105 premium over the $35 Google Chromecast, but the Chromecast is just a streaming stick. While the Nexus Player supports Google Cast (the retconned name for the Chromecast protocol), it also brings a dedicated TV interface along with local apps and games. In other words, it’s a smartphone for your television.

Inside the box puck is a 1.8GHz Intel Atom (Silvermont) processor, a PowerVR Series6 GPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. Dual-band 2×2 802.11ac Wi-Fi provides connectivity, along with Bluetooth LE 4.0. While Android TV supports Ethernet, the Nexus Player doesn’t.

The worst part of the remote is that it likes to randomly stop working. You’ll be clicking along the interface and everything will just stop, which means it’s time to get up, flip the box over, hit the Bluetooth pairing button, and then hold home+back to set the remote to pairing mode. We had to do this three times in about two hours.

Given the emphasis on apps, that 8GB of storage is a disaster, though. After the OS and pre-installed apps, you’ve got about 5GB of storage free out of the box. Let’s install some games!

All the videos we tested from several sources (YouTube, Google Play, Netflix) would drop frames. The frame drops are seemingly random, too, as if the Nexus Player is just fast enough to run 1080p content at a smooth framerate but then the OS decides to do something in the background and things start to slow down.

U.K. Spy Agency Chief Goes Public With Anti-Encryption Appeal To U.S. Tech Companies | TechCrunch

Writing in the Financial Times newspaper, GCHQ’s Robert Hannigan claims that “privacy has never been an absolute right” and warns that the terrorist group ISIS has “embraced the Internet as a noisy channel in which to promote itself, intimidate people, and radicalise new recruits”.

Hannigan’s initial argument focuses on how ISIS is using social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook as propaganda platforms

“I understand why they have an uneasy relationship with governments,” he writes of U.S. tech firms. “They aspire to be neutral conduits of data and to sit outside or above politics. But increasingly their services not only host the material of violent extremism or child exploitation, but are the routes for the facilitation of crime and terrorism.

“However much they may dislike it, they have become the command-and-control networks of choice for terrorists and criminals, who find their services as transformational as the rest of us.

SSL 3.0 is nearly 15 years old, but support for it remains widespread. Most importantly, nearly all browsers support it and, in order to work around bugs in HTTPS servers, browsers will retry failed connections with older protocol versions, including SSL 3.0. Because a network attacker can cause connection failures, they can trigger the use of SSL 3.0 and then exploit this issue.

ImperialViolet – POODLE attacks on SSLv3

Fundamentally, the design flaw in SSL/TLS that allows this is the same as with Lucky13 and Vaudenay’s two attacks: SSL got encryption and authentication the wrong way around — it authenticates before encrypting.

The POODLE Attack and the End of SSL 3.0 | Mozilla Security Blog

SSL version 3.0 is no longer secure. Browsers and websites need to turn off SSLv3 and use more modern security protocols as soon as possible, in order to avoid compromising users’ private information.

SSLv3 will be disabled by default in Firefox 34, which will be released on Nov 25. The code to disable it is landing today in Nightly, and will be promoted to Aurora and Beta in the next few weeks. This timing is intended to allow website operators some time to upgrade any servers that still rely on SSLv3.

“Double Irish” Tax Loophole Used By US Companies To Be Closed

The Irish Finance Minister announced on Tuesday that Ireland will no longer allow companies to register in Ireland unless the companies are also tax resident. This will effectively close off the corporate tax evasion scheme known as the “Double Irish” used by the likes of Google, Apple, and Facebook to route their earnings through their Irish holdings in order to garner an effective tax rate of, as in Google FY2013, 0.16%. Ireland’s new policy will take effect in 2015 for new companies. “For existing companies, there will be provision for a transition period until the end of 2020.”

GT Advanced COO sold $1.2M in shares before bankruptcy, Apple asks court to seal documents | 9to5Mac

There has been some indication that executives anticipated the bankruptcy with reports that the company’s CEO unloaded approximately $160,000 in stock days before the iPhone 6 launched without GT’s sapphire cover that was previously rumored to make an appearance on the device. Today, The Wall Street Journal reports that another GT Advanced executive, COO Daniel Squiller, sold $1.2 million of stock in May and “set up a plan under which he sold another $750,000 of shares over ensuing months before the company filed for bankruptcy.”

Details of Apple’s contracts with supplier GT Advanced have been trickling out since the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this month. While asking courts for permission to “wind down” operations at its Arizona plant, the company called its agreement with Apple “oppressive and burdensome” and reportedly requested courts disclose more information about its relationship with Apple. The exact reason behind what lead to the bankruptcy filing is still unclear, but there has been speculation that it’s related to a final $139 million payment that was reportedly withheld by Apple.

Exclusive: This is ‘Shamu,’ Motorola’s upcoming Nexus 6/X

Google’s upcoming “Nexus 6″ (some claim it will be called “Nexus X”) has long been rumored, and there have been many leaked specifications and details rolling out for quite some time now.

Notably, a report from last month based on specifications leaked via GFXBench seemingly all but confirmed a variety of facts about the device: a 2.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter and Android L (surprise, surprise).

The biggest unknown is the screen, but 9to5Google reports 5.92-inch screen, with QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440. This dense screen according to our calculations comes out to be 498 PPI—a fairly impressive number for any smartphone. As such, it’s going to have a battery that is equally impressive, packing 3,200 mAh to power all of those pixels.

Previous reports suggested a 5.2-inch screen instead of the currently rumored 5.92-inch

As for the overall appearance of the device, it’s basically going to be a scaled up 2nd generation Moto X with some minor tweaks to make the larger size easier to use.

Bug in Bash shell creates big security hole on anything with *nix in it | Ars Technica

The bug, discovered by Stephane Schazelas, is related to how Bash processes environmental variables passed by the operating system or by a program calling a Bash-based script. If Bash has been configured as the default system shell, it can be used by network–based attackers against servers and other Unix and Linux devices via Web requests, secure shell, telnet sessions, or other programs that use Bash to execute scripts.

While Bash is often thought of just as a local shell, it is also frequently used by Apache servers to execute CGI scripts for dynamic content (through mod_cgi and mod_cgid). A crafted web request targeting a vulnerable CGI application could launch code on the server. Similar attacks are possible via OpenSSH, which could allow even restricted secure shell sessions to bypass controls and execute code on the server.

Errata Security: Bash bug as big as Heartbleed

Today’s bash bug is as big a deal as Heartbleed. That’s for many reasons.

The first reason is that the bug interacts with other software in unexpected ways. We know that interacting with the shell is dangerous, but we write code that does it anyway. An enormous percentage of software interacts with the shell in some fashion. Thus, we’ll never be able to catalogue all the software out there that is vulnerable to the bash bug. This is similar to the OpenSSL bug: OpenSSL is included in a bajillion software packages, so we were never able to fully quantify exactly how much software is vulnerable.

The second reason is that while the known systems (like your web-server) are patched, unknown systems remain unpatched. We see that with the Heartbleed bug: six months later, hundreds of thousands of systems remain vulnerable. These systems are rarely things

First attacks using ‘shellshock’ Bash bug discovered

AusCERT earlier yesterday also claimed to have received reports the bug was being exploited in the wild.

Meanwhile, security researcher Robert Graham claims to have found at least 3,000 systems vulnerable to the bug. However Graham’s scan only looked at systems on port 80; the researcher noted embedded webservers on odd ports are the real danger and a scan for these “would give a couple times more results”.

Check our self:

There is an easy test to determine if a Linux or Unix system is vulnerable. To check your system, from a command line, type:

env x='() { :;}; echo vulnerable' bash -c "echo this is a test"

If the system is vulnerable, the output will be:

vulnerable
 this is a test

An unaffected (or patched) system will output:

bash: warning: x: ignoring function definition attempt
bash: error importing function definition for `x'
 this is a test

Google Now for businesses reportedly on the table as HP chases a Google partnership

Google and HP have been discussing an enterprise partnership for the past year with little progress made, according to a new report. Topics have included a “Nexus tablet” with hardware encryption, as well as a version of Google Now for business data.

In fact, the report says that HP had also talked to Apple about a “Siri for enterprise,” which was nixed when the IBM deal was announced.

So Google needs to respond soon or businesses could find themselves locked into the iOS ecosystem before Android has its enterprise act together. HP is a potential partner with connections in the business IT market, and a Google Now for business data would be a feature that Apple couldn’t match. Details of its implementation are unclear at this point, as it’s not an official product, but would center around voice searches for information like financial data or product inventory. This raises several questions about whether Google would need access to data from businesses’ proprietary, private databases.

Meanwhile, HP is working on its own mobile voice search, which it is internally calling “Enterprise Siri.” It’s perhaps not the best sign for a product in development when its codename refers to the rival service it is copying.

HP Wanted To Make A Nexus Phone For Enterprise | Digital Trends

HP reportedly wanted to partner with Google to make a Nexus smartphone specifically aimed at business users. It would have incorporated several business-centric features, such as the ability to add high-end encryption. However, HP encountered internal resistance from Google, in particular from Andy Rubin, who was in charge of Android. Rubin was replaced by Sundar Pichai in March 2013

AT&T will send LTE media broadcasts to your phone in 2015

Verizon may be the first out of the gate with LTE-based media broadcasting in the US, but it won’t be the only game in town. AT&T’s John Stankey has revealed that his carrier will have its own Multicast service sometime in 2015. It’ll first launch in areas where AT&T can start immediately, but it should expand as the provider gets comfortable with both the technology and content partners.

Meet MonsterMind, the NSA Bot That Could Wage Cyberwar Autonomously | Threat Level | WIRED

The NSA whistleblower says the agency is developing a cyber defense system that would instantly and autonomously neutralize foreign cyberattacks against the US, and could be used to launch retaliatory strikes as well. The program, called MonsterMind, raises fresh concerns about privacy and the government’s policies around offensive digital attacks.

Snowden tells WIRED in an extensive interview with James Bamford that algorithms would scour massive repositories of metadata and analyze it to differentiate normal network traffic from anomalous or malicious traffic. Armed with this knowledge, the NSA could instantly and autonomously identify, and block, a foreign threat.

Think of it as a digital version of the Star Wars initiative President Reagan proposed in the 1980s.

Snowden suggests MonsterMind could one day be designed to return fire—automatically, without human intervention—against the attacker.

Spotting malicious attacks in the manner Snowden describes would, he says, require the NSA to collect and analyze all network traffic flows in order to design an algorithm that distinguishes normal traffic flow from anomalous, malicious traffic.

“[T]hat means we have to be intercepting all traffic flows,” Snowden told WIRED’s James Bamford. “That means violating the Fourth Amendment, seizing private communications without a warrant, without probable cause or even a suspicion of wrongdoing. For everyone, all the time.”

MonsterMind sounds much like the Plan X cyberwarfare program run by Darpa. The five-year, $110 million research program has several goals, not the least of which is mapping the entire internet and identifying every node to help the Pentagon spot, and disable, targets if needed. Another goal is building a system that allows the Pentagon to conduct speed-of-light attacks using predetermined and pre-programmed scenarios. Such a system would be able to spot threats and autonomously launch a response, the Washington Post reported two years ago.

It’s not clear if Plan X is MonsterMind or if MonsterMind even exists. The Post noted at the time that Darpa would begin accepting proposals for Plan X that summer. Snowden said MonsterMind was in the works when he left his work as an NSA contractor last year.

No, Google Isn’t Going To Kill Its Nexus Devices

Every time Google releases a new named and numbered version of Android, it also announces a new Nexus device, built by one of Google’s top manufacturing partners like LG or Samsung. Dave Burke, the head of Android engineering and the Nexus program at Google, says that the company plans to keep doing just that.

“People just get excited by concepts and forget why we do things,” Burke told me in an interview. “We are still invested in Nexus.”

Burke would not discuss Silver. “Android Silver is not something that we are commenting on right now,” he said. But the prospect of Silver doesn’t mean that Nexus is going away.

You can’t build a platform in the abstract, you have to build a device (or devices). So, I don’t think can can or will ever go away. And then, I think Nexus is also interesting in that it is a way of us explaining how we think Android should run. It is a statement, almost a statement of purity in some respects. I don’t see why we would ever turn away from that, it wouldn’t make sense.

YouTube introduces 60fps video and crowdfunding )

First up is the news that YouTube will soon be introducing
support for 48 and 60 frames per second. In the announcement on the
YouTube Creators blog gamers have been singled out as the group
that this will most benefit

Also new is fan funding, which has been hinted at for a while. The feature will allow fans to contribute money to your channel at any time for any reason and will be introduced soon. This will make a huge difference to those whose channels aren’t necessarily big enough to benefit from ad revenue. YouTube has already got a handful of creators to sign up to test this out across both desktop and Android.

The car that outsmarts speed cameras

Speed camera fines could become a thing of the past if Hyundai has its way.

The brand is set to sell a luxury sedan in Australia that is capable of outsmarting speed cameras with a combination of GPS and braking technology.

Speaking in Seoul at the launch of the Hyundai Genesis, company spokesman Guido Schenken told journalists that the car could identify speed cameras and slow down if drivers are going too fast.

Over NSA worries, Germany ends government contract with Verizon | Ars Technica

Germany has opted not to renew its government contract with Verizon, citing concerns over spying by the National Security Agency. The contract will expire in 2015.

In a German-language statement (Google Translate) posted to the Ministry of the Interior’s website, Berlin noted that it needs “an infrastructure with an increased level of security.”

Verizon has maintained the contract since 2010.

“There are indications that Verizon is legally required to provide certain things to the NSA, and that’s one of the reasons the cooperation with Verizon won’t continue,” Interior Ministry spokesman Tobias Plate told reporters, according to the Associated Press.

This Is Volantis, HTC’s Nine-Inch Nexus Tablet

According to our information, the tablet is internally referred to as the Nexus 9, though this name could change before it comes to market. Here’s what we’ve heard so far in the specs department:

  • 8.9″ Display at 2048×1440 (281ppi)
  • NVIDIA Logan 64-bit processor (Tegra K1)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16/32GB internal storage
  • 8MP OIS main camera, 3MP front facing camera
  • Aluminum zero-gap construction
  • Stereo front-facing speakers
  • 8.91″x5.98″x0.31″ body (that’s 22.63×15.19×0.79cm)
  • 418g (or 427g with LTE) (that’s 14.74/15.1 ounces)

Errata Security: 300k vulnerable to Heartbleed two months later

When the Heartbleed vulnerability was announced, we found 600k systems vulnerable. A month later, we found that half had been patched, and only 300k were vulnerable. Last night, now slightly over two months after Heartbleed, we scanned again, and found 300k (309,197) still vulnerable. This is done by simply scanning on port 443, I haven’t check other ports.

This indicates people have stopped even trying to patch.

Linux Note-taking App ‘Springseed’ 2.0 Refreshes

The open-source app is currently only available on Linux, offering users a minimalistic UI for writing, storing and categorising notes, thoughts, code snippets, and more. Notes can be synced between computers using the built-in Dropbox sync, though this isn’t required to use the app.

Version 2.0, the first stable update since February, refreshed the application’s UI with a darker, angular new look. The light colour scheme and custom window frames of version 1.1 have been replaced by a dark sidebar with large typography, native window borders and a boxier, flatter design with colourful accents in the edit window and high contrast icons.

Opera is back on Linux

As the Opera team said in a Monday blog post:

Many of us at Opera use Linux as our primary platform. It’s great to be able to try out the newest developments of Opera on Linux once again. Adding Linux to our browser line fulfils an important part of Opera’s vision to shape an open, connected world. We want everyone to have fast and safe access to the web. Adding Linux opens up that possibility to more machines running the open-source operating system.

Bitcoin is moving from its Deceptive phase to a very Disruptive phase.

A Greek-American engineer, physician, and entrepreneur best known for being the founder and chairman of the X PRIZE Foundation, the co-founder and chairman of Singularity University and the co-author of the New York Times bestseller Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Think. He is also the former CEO and co-founder of the Zero-Gravity Corporation, the co-founder and vice chairman of Space Adventures Ltd., the founder and chairman of the Rocket Racing League, the co-founder of the International Space University, the co-founder of Planetary Resources, founder of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, and vice-chairman & co-founder of Human Longevity, Inc.

Bitcoin is moving from its Deceptive phase to a very Disruptive phase. This Blog is going to explain why, and what you may want to do.

I’ve been tracking Bitcoin since its inception, and my confidence has grown to the point where I’m now trading in a portion of my gold holdings for bitcoin, buying it and accepting bitcoin for the Abundance 360 CEO Summit.

If you’ve followed my work, or participated in my Abundance 360 Summit, you understand that I teach and track exponential technologies using my “6 D’s” approach, looking for “user interface moments.”

Bitcoin is following the 6Ds and is on a path to go from deceptive to disruptive over the next 1 – 3 years.

Why Bitcoin is following the 6 D’s

1. DIGITIZED: Bitcoin is digitized money — it is a global, purely digital currency. Every bitcoin is traded, earned, sold, exchanged and bought in cyberspace. For this reason, it is living on Moore’s law and hopping on the exponential curve.

2. DECEPTIVE: Bitcoin software was released to the public in 2009 and for the first few years has been growing in its deceptive phase. Few heard about it, few used it and accepted it. In addition, the currency has been hard to use; therefore, it hasn’t had its “User Interface Moment” (the key transition from deceptive to disruptive). More soon.

3. DISRUPTIVE: As described below by my friend Barry Silbert (founder of Second Market), Bitcoin is about to enter its disruptive phase where its rate of acceptance and use will explode, as will its value. See below.

4. DEMATERIALIZING: Bitcoin is eliminating or dematerializing the use of physical money (bills and coins), even credit cards. But more than that, it is also dematerializing (read: eliminating) the need for central banks, lawyers and currency exchanges.

5. DEMONETIZING: Bitcoin eliminates middlemen (banks, lawyers, exchanges) and demonetizes the cost of transactions. No fees. It makes it cheaper to use, spread and share money.

6. DEMOCRATIZING: Bitcoin makes access to capital available to everyone, where there are no banks, no ATMs and no credit card suppliers. Ultimately, as we move (over the next 6 years) to a world of 7 billion digitally connected humans, Bitcoin makes currency available to anyone with a connection to the internet.

Bitcoin’s Evolution – Why it will be Disruptive Soon

My friend Barry Silbert (founder of Second Market) recently spoke as my guest at Singularity University’s Exponential Finance conference about Bitcoin. He provided an excellent overview of its near-term trajectory, summarized below. His input has also put me on the lookout for the “User Interface Moment” – that moment in time when an entrepreneur designs a piece of interface software (think Marc Andreessen and Mosaic) that makes it so easy to use bitcoin.

I’ll be reporting on those user interfaces, investing in those startups and helping to promote them.

Okay, now back to Barry Silbert’s insights. Barry outlined five phases for this digital currency that help explain where it’s been and where it’s going.

Phase 1: The period 2009 to 2011 was the early ‘experimentation phase’ for bitcoin (i.e. deceptive). Here the software is released to public and most technologists and hackers started playing with the code. During this phase, there was no apparent value to currency yet; mining bitcoin was easy and could be done by a single person on a MacBook or PC.

Phase 2: 2011 marked the beginning of the ‘early adopter’ phase (still deceptive). There was a lot of early hype and press around Silk Road (where you could buy drugs). The value went from less than $1 to over $30, then crashed. This spurs the first generation of bitcoin companies to build basic infrastructure: wallets, merchant processors, mining operations, exchanges, etc. – i.e. the early user interfaces.

Phase 3: 2012 thru mid-2014 marked the beginning of the ‘Venture Capital Phase.’ Folks like Marc Andreessen, Google Ventures, Benchmark and others have begun investing in Generation 2 Bitcoin companies. We are right in the middle of Phase 3 right now. Thousands of bitcoin companies are getting funding. Many of these are trying to create the “User-Interface Moment.”

Phase 4: Fall 2014 thru 2015 will like see the start of the Wall Street Phase. Here we will begin to see institutional money acknowledging digital currencies as an asset class, and they will begin trading it, investing it and creating products around it. This marks the start of the disruptive phase.

Phase 5: Finally will come the ‘Mass Global Consumer Adoption’ phase — this is where bitcoin becomes a major player in the global economy. When consumers feel it is easy, safe and secure to use bitcoin. It won’t be possible until after the “User Interface Moment” materializes, but I believe, as does Barry, that this is only 1-2 years out.

MultiROM Manager – Android Apps on Google Play

**This app only works on Nexus 7 (2012 & 2013), Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, as they are the only devices officially supported by MultiROM.
This application requires root and it is designed to be used by experienced “power users”.

It is strongly recommended to read XDA thread before installing this app, you can find links at the bottom of this description.**

MultiROM Manager can install or update MultiROM, it’s recovery and kernels. It can also install Ubuntu Touch system-image based builds into MultiROM as a secondary ROM.

MultiROM is one-of-a-kind multi-boot mod for Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013) and Nexus 4. It can boot any Android ROM as well as other systems like Ubuntu Touch. Besides booting from device’s internal memory, MultiROM can boot from USB drive connected to the device via OTG cable. The main part of MultiROM is a boot manager, which appears every time your device starts and lets you choose ROM to boot. You can see how it looks on the left image below and in gallery. ROMs are installed and managed via modified TWRP recovery. You can use standard ZIP files to install secondary Android ROMs, daily prebuilt image files to install Ubuntu Touch and MultiROM even has its own installer system, which can be used to ship other Linux-based systems.
