FIM++ is imperative, dynamically-typed, interpreted language. Currently, it supports integer arithmetic, console output, dynamically growing arrays, and subroutines.

FIM++ can use Java classes, which opens it to the rich and wide JVM ecosystem. Also, it makes it possible to write a simple GUI program using Swing.

Anonymous Open Letter to Xamarin – Please Stop Abusing Your Monopoly

Anonymous Open Letter to Xamarin – Please Stop Abusing Your Monopoly

I’ve been using Xamarin for the past half a year almost fulltime, developing an application for both iOS and Android. Everything in this letter is based on my personal experience with the technology.

I’d really like to know what the priority list is at Xamarin, because it seems that Cool Thing To Demo is way up high, and Working software is hiding down in the corner where nobody sees it. I just hope that someone at Xamarin is actually reading the error reports that Xamarin Studio generates.

Does anyone there actually use Xamarin Studio, or is it just something you guys sell and never try yourself? Throwing exceptions on Undo/Save is something no editor should ever do, period. Please stop adding new features and go fix some bugs. There are hundreds of them just in the UI of the editor.

Xamarin makes me sad, here is my message to them

TL;DR: I love C# more than any other language, but Xamarin is HORRIBLE. I wish it and mono were never invented. It’s a disgrace, completely broken and buggy and just the most broken thing in the entire universe, but I still use it.

Why? Because I can write for 2 platforms as if it was one. haha, not really … but because I work on small apps, I don’t have to write all the business crap twice. That is good about Xamarin, that is the only thing. They can actually compile plain C# … hooray. If only the rest of the crap expensive broken Xamarin crap library actually worked as advertised.

If you don’t believe me, go to https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/ and look at the bugs, or look at mono release notes. Just look at the list of shiny features of Mono (https://www.mono-project.com/docs/). Well half of that crap is either broken, or was never implemented, or just doesn’t work as documented. Everything is just a lie that should make it look good. Xamarin does thousand things, they release new iOS SDK the same day Apple releases it … wow … if only they waited a year and then released a working version instead. They make thousand cool features, but they’re all broken.

Apple announces record 10 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sales in opening weekend

Apple has today announced that it sold 10 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus units in the first three days of sales. This includes the 4 million units sold in the first 24 hours of preorder sales.

For comparison, Apple reported 9 million iPhone 5s and 5c sales in the first three days. This means the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus set a new record by over a million units. Apple is unlikely to give any more color regarding iPhone sales performance until its quarterly earnings call in October.

Sprint says iPhone 6 debut was its most successful iPhone launch yet

Sprint’s newly appointed CEO Marcelo Claure shared on Twitter over the weekend that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus debut marked the most successful iPhone launch in Sprint’s history.

List of best-selling mobile phones – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

iOS 8 adoption hits 30% after first weekend of iPhone 6 sales, iPhone 6 usage outpaces 6 Plus

While iOS 8 adoption was lagging behind last year’s release at just 15% before the official launch of the new iPhones on Friday, it’s now hovering at approximately 30% after record first weekend sales for the new iPhones. That stat, which comes from research and analytics firms Fiksu, Mixpanel, Appsee, & Chitika is below the almost 50% of users iOS 7 had this many days into launch last year.

Amazon Buys Twitch, and Why it makes sense for Amazon to buy Twitch | The Verge

The company has since confirmed the news, and a press release states Amazon will pay $970 million in cash.

Amazon is clearly very keen to get into gaming. It created its in-house gaming studio back in 2012 and has made a few lightweight Facebook and mobile games since then. It signaled it was getting more serious with the acquisition of Killer Instinct developer Double Helix Games and hiring of Kim Swift, the designer behind the classic Portal game. The company’s new Fire TV offered a selection of games created by Amazon’s in-house team and even has a Amazon joystick you can buy separately, hinting at aspirations to compete with consoles like the Xbox and PlayStation.

For Twitch, being acquired was always about finding a partner that could help it keep up with its massive growth. As The Verge reported back in May, Twitch was being offered hundreds of millions in new funding from its previous investors, but felt that it simply couldn’t scale with capital alone. It needed a company with global infrastructure already in place that it could piggyback on. YouTube certainly fit the bill. But Amazon, with its Amazon Web Services (AWS), also has the kind of international presence to ensure Twitch can stream live video to millions across every continent. Twitch in turn could be the live-streaming platform that powers everything from gaming to concerts to sporting events that play on Amazon’s family of Fire devices.

Why would Twitch choose Amazon over Google? It wasn’t the money, with Amazon’s purchase price being equal or less than Google’s reported offer. Shear wouldn’t answer that question directly, but did provide detail on why Amazon was the best fit. “One of the things that really stood out about Amazon was their approach to acquisitions. We will be a wholly owned subsidiary and and I will remain CEO,” said Shear. “They have a long term vision about how to create big opportunities in the future by investing today.”

Reading between the lines a little, it sounds like Twitch felt at Google, it would have always been YouTube’s little brother. At Amazon, it has the chance to build something from scratch, as Amazon has no user-generated or live video offerings yet. A source familiar with the deal suggested Twitch felt Amazon would give it more autonomy and bigger role in growing the gaming business.

Amazon Pounces On Twitch After Google Balks Due To Antitrust Concerns

Google was unable to close the deal, said sources familiar with the talks, because it was concerned about potential antitrust issues that could have come with the acquisition. The Mountain View, Calif. company already owns YouTube, the world’s most-visited content streaming site, which competes with Twitch to broadcast and stream live or on-demand video game sessions. One source noted that because of the concerns, Google and Twitch could not come to an agreement on the size of a potential breakup fee in case the deal did not go through.

White House cybersecurity czar brags about his lack of technical expertise

Michael Daniel is the White House’s cybersecurity coordinator, the man who “leads the interagency development of national cybersecurity strategy and policy” for the president. And in a recent interview with GovInfoSecurity, he argued that his lack of technical expertise gave him an advantage in doing that job.

“You don’t have to be a coder in order to really do well in this position,” Daniel said, when asked if his job required knowledge of the technology behind information security. “In fact, actually, I think being too down in the weeds at the technical level could actually be a little bit of a distraction.”

“You can get taken up and enamored with the very detailed aspects of some of the technical solutions,” he explained, arguing that “the real issue is looking at the broad strategic picture.”

As Princeton computer scientist Ed Felten points out, it’s hard to imagine senior policymakers with responsibility for other technical subjects making this kind of claim. Imagine a White House economic advisor arguing that experience in the weeds of economic research would be a distraction, an attorney general making that claim about time in a courtroom, or a surgeon general bragging about never having set foot in an operating room.

Huawei’s Head of Business Group Sees no Future in Tizen

In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal at the company’s headquarters in Shenzhen, Richard Yu, the head of Huawei’s consumer business group, talked about the future of the global smartphone industry and how Huawei will compete against Samsung and Apple.

Mr. Yu: We have no plans to use Tizen. Some telecom carriers are pushing us to design Tizen phones but I say “no” to them. In the past we had a team to do research on Tizen but I canceled it. We feel Tizen has no chance to be successful. Even for Windows Phone it’s difficult to be successful.

We have no plans to build our own OS. It’s easy to design a new OS, but the problem is building the ecosystem around it.

There weren\’t stunts at Google I/O 2013 resembling the Great Google Glass Launch of 2012, and there wasn\’t nearly the same level of hard news as there was in 2012, but nonetheless it was a significant event for both software developers and users.

A Google I/O Nexus 7 (HD) announcement is one of the most highly anticipated development at the annual Android event. When the device was a no-show, Nexus tab enthusiasts refuse to give up hope.

Matt’s Howto: WebcamStudio

For months now, I’ve received requests to do a how-to on WebcamStudio. I’ve held off on this, since the developer has stated outright that the software is about to go under some heavy changes. Still, I am the co-pilot on the project so to speak, so I thought I’d throw everyone a bone and show them how to run WebcamStudio on Ustream.

You can download WebcamStudio from this link. https://www.ws4gl.org/download/installing-on-ubuntu
This segment demonstrates how you can run multiple webcams, plus how you can even add in some transitions as well on the Wild Dog PC from System76.com during a live broadcast.

Flash troubles with Ustream? If you find that Flash is giving you the allow/deny box and you cannot click into it, try this below.

1- Visit this url
https://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager06.html

2- Next, look for a reference to the site giving you trouble. In my case, it was static-cdn1.ustream.tv

3- Highlight the static-cdn1.ustream.tv entry with your mouse, then choose always allow.

4- Close the browser, then re-open it and visit Ustream once again, then try to broadcast again. Both your audio and video will work.

5- Now close the browser again, open up webcam studio, then visit Ustream to broadcast once again. Once there, choose the video source pull down for WebcamStudio. Audio source, should be your webcam or USB headset.
