The gf (ClareBear) has started helping herself to my tshirts when she stays over at my place.

First time, she grabbed my techSNAP tshirt, so I made her pose (for Allan & Chris) in front of my freeNAS & router setup (running dd-wrt), before she got to wear it. See photo (ClareSNAP) – where she’s smuggling peanuts. Or maybe you’re staring at the raspberry-pi which is my media box, to stream shizzle off the freeNAS.

Then, the Second time, she grabbed my LAS tshirt, so I told her she had to pose for a titalating photo for Chris & Matt. Which she is very happy to do. See photo (ClareLAS).

Waiting for the third time she grabs a JB piece of clothing now. Thanks for the awesome podcasts.

Deepin Software Center, aka DSC, is one of the most talked about applications of Linux Deepin. Installing new applications is just a one-click operation. DSC supports parallel downloading, resuming downloads, update notification and cache cleaning. DSC also comes with colorful skins that can be swapped as your mood changes.

Deepin Desktop Environment

Similar to other projects Deepin went ahead and developed their own Shell which was simply called Deepin Desktop Environment. DDE is based on HTML5 and WebKit and uses a mix of QML and Go Language for different components. Core components of DDE include the desktop itself, the brand new launcher, bottom Dock, and the control center.

Moving the Steam folder on Linux is causing users’ entire file systems to be deleted

Users of Steam on GNU/Linux are reporting that attempting to move the Steam folder – something that the GNU/Linux Steam installer doesn’t allow you to set at the time of installation – is leading to everything able to be deleted being deleted recursively from root. First entered as a bug report by the Github user keyvin, he explained how he tried to move the directory somewhere else and symlink it to the original location. In almost every use case under the Sun, this usually works without too many problems. Unfortunately for keyvin, however, a bug in Steam proceeded to delete everything it was able to on his computer – even the content on his 3TB external storage.

‘Goodbye Photoshop’ and ‘Hello Krita’ at University Paris 8

The ATI (Art and Technology of Image) department at University Paris 8 is switching to Krita this year. This department has the double aim to train students both to use graphic software (2D,3D,VFX and Compositing) and to code their own (Python, C#, C++). Until recently the classes used only Adobe Photoshop, but because of inadequate support from the company the department decided to
replace that.

Xonotic 0.8 Release

Today we are very excited to give you the next iteration of Xonotic, the free and fast arena shooter. Yep, you guessed it: Xonotic 0.8.0 is out! This version is the culmination of months of effort from many individuals from across the globe. It contains improvements in just about all visible aspects of the game and onto the web. Matt’s Howto:

Pavucontrol: The best way to utilize PulseAudio without any frustration, running pavucontrol will allow you to use software like Jitsi, Empathy or Skype. To install pavucontrol, simply run
sudo apt-get install pavucontrol from a terminal window.

Now once I installed it on the Wild Dog PC from System76.com, I was immediately able to run the software, then jump over to my Jitsi installation, place a call to Chris and once there, toggle over to the Recording tab of the pavucontrol user interface. Now since I had a USB headset plugged in, I needed PulseAudio to make sure that Jitsi remembered that I wanted to use the headset and not the soundcard for my microphone needs. With the default volume controls under Ubuntu, this isn’t possible as setting up the input device doesn’t work on a per-application basis the way that pavucontrol does.
