We spent the weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) and we’ve seen everything from an exclusive look at Duke Nukem Forever to a concert with Jonathan Coulton.
It’s our full report on everything PAX Prime 2010, and what impressed us the most, what let us down, and what surprised us!
Penny Arcade Expo
- Created in 2004 by authors of the Penny Arcade webcomic
- Hailed as a weekend-long celebration of gamer culture (not just the games themselves)
Chris and Jeremy attended last year…
- This year was larger, more crowded.
- Also larger budget for individual booths.
- And more booth babes!
- First year as Media/Press
Same as last year, would like to see return:
- Heavy emphasis on indie game titles (The PAX 10)
- Apps for mobile devices were very nice this year
Improvements for next year:
- Panel improvements
- Something to solve crowd issues (tight aisles, body odor, noise)
Alan’s First Impressions!
- poopie
The CONCERT, as a commentary on Gamer Culture
- DS screens in lieu of lighters, during ballads
- Rockband 3 to wild applause of ~3000 nerds
- …and Wil Wheaton
- White guys wrapping about hating blogs, and such
- Headlined by Jonathan Coulton (writer of the Portal theme)
Best Booths:
Need for Speed – Hot Pursuit
Disney Interactive
Little Big Planet 2
Fallout: New Vegas
Disappointments:
All of Microsoft’s booths – cheap, no presentation
Duke Nukem Gameplay
Surprises:
Duke Nukem Appearance
Age of Empires Online
