Ubuntu MATE 14.04 Released

This release is unusual in that it is based on Ubuntu MATE 14.04
but adds a number of new features and fixes many bugs. Although
this is a 14.04 release you can consider it a newer version than
14.10 but many of the changes outlined below have already been
released to Ubuntu MATE 14.10 via updates.

AWS Elastic Beanstalk Adds Preconfigured Docker Platform

The ‘Preconfigured Docker’ platforms are delivered as Docker containers allowing you to develop and test your applications locally using the same container that your application will be deployed to on Elastic Beanstalk.

In order to help you to realize these benefits, we are announcing a preview of our new
container management service, EC2 Container Service (or ECS for short).

This service will make it easy for you to run any number of Docker_containers across a managed cluster of _Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud(EC2) instances using powerful APIs and other tools. You do not
have to install cluster management software, purchase and maintain the cluster hardware, or match your hardware
inventory to your software needs when you use ECS. You simply launch some instances in
a cluster, define some tasks, and start them. ECS is built around a scalable,
fault-tolerant,
multi-tenant base that takes care of all of the details of cluster management on your
behalf.

The Switch To Systemd Will Likely Occur For Ubuntu 15.04

Among the bugs that need to be addressed for the switch to happen is needing some AppArmor fixes, support for Ubuntu working in a LXC container with systemd, working cryptsetup integration with systemd during the boot process, and other changes. Some of the other work needed includes bringing up the network enablement in a good manner, NFS improvements, improving Plymouth integration, validating behavior for various packages, etc. While there’s a lot of work that needs to be done to clear it for integration, the consensus expressed during today’s Ubuntu Online Summit was, “generally we are ready to switch now.”

Flat GIMP icon Theme v 1.0.0 by android272 on deviantART

The Flat GIMP icon Theme was created to modernize GIMP and keep people focused on their art. I have heard it all over the web that GIMP is ugly and I wanted to change that.
